Ethical and sustainable investing

Make your money a force for good

The investments you make can have a significant real-world impact

If you’re mindful of the social and environmental impact of your investments, we have a host of ways to help.

You’re far from alone. Many of our clients would rather not invest in certain industries or countries – whether for ethical, religious, or governance reasons. Others want to support sectors they believe in, like renewable energy or sustainable technology.

You might find our partnership with Greenbank is an ideal way to know your money is doing as much good as possible, while still investing with an established name. Or you might want to talk about more bespoke screening or impact investing options.

The most important part is to have a clear and full conversation with your Financial Planner. They’ll know the right questions to ask – so your investments make sense to your heart as well as your head.

The first name in sustainable investments

Rathbone Greenbank’s multi asset portfolios give you all the flexibility, risk options, and confidence of a major institution, while still using your money for good.

We partner with Greenbank because it gives excellent transparency and oversight for our clients – as well as the reassurance of more than 20 years’ sustainable investment experience.

The fund has clear criteria for investment and exclusion. It screens across 12 different ethical, environmental, and social issues, and maps its investment decisions to the UN’s sustainable development goals. It considers company culture, business model, and government attitudes as well as ecological and human impact.

Importantly – like our other partner funds – you can work with your Financial Planner to choose the right level of equity risk to suit your personal financial goals. And, naturally, our investment management committee oversees the due diligence effort into our sustainable options, so you can have complete confidence.

Bespoke ethical screening and impact investing

Your beliefs are individual. So if you need a more nuanced approach to screening and inclusion, a bespoke option may be more suitable for you.

A good quality conversation is important here, because detail really matters. For instance, do you favour some kinds of renewable energy over others? Or do you object to all animal testing, or only in non-medical settings?

The more clearly we understand you, the better we can align you with the right investment manager to suit your beliefs and goals. Which is why we’ll spend so much time ensuring your lifetime financial plan fully reflects what you really want to achieve.
